- Beef sold in steaks, roasts and specialty cuts
This is a partnership between three family farms in Iowa. The connection between the farms is the cattle breed they produce and raise. They are all raising the Scottish Highland breed. Each of the families involved in the partnership had separate businesses before this partnership, but joining forces allowed them to limit supply issues and run the business more smoothly.
The families in the partnership are the Deardorff Highlands, founded in 2012 in west central Iowa. The Mud Ridge Ranch started as a hobby farm in 2019 and grew into a larger operation in southwestern Iowa. The Rainbow Raccoon Ranch is located in west-central Iowa.
Heritage does not sell cow shares of the beef it produces; it sells steaks, roasts, ground beef, and specialty cuts. In addition to the beef it sells on its website, poultry, pork, and even seafood are available. Still, they are made available through partnerships with local farmers in its area—well, except for the seafood.
The site’s steak products include Filet Mignon, Ribeye, and NY Strip Steaks, all sold in four packs. They also have Hanger steaks, several cuts of sirloin steak, London broil, flat iron steak, and flank steaks, sold in four packs or two packs. The variety of roasts available includes Sirloin Tip, Chuck Roast, Tri-tip, and Rump roasts, all roughly 2-3 pounds.
If you love specialty cuts like Brisket (5-6 pounds), short ribs (2 pounds), or oxtail (2 pounds), Heritage Highland also has them.
As previously mentioned, they do not sell cow shares, but they have 2 different options, including a one-time purchase of whatever product you want and a “get it every month” pseudo subscription model. This would be similar to the subscription meat boxes that are available online. They are currently not offering discounts for subscriptions.
note – i have not yet purchased from this farm.
